I just got my dfx300 and I am in the process of getting to know it. I have a battlefield that has a big area where snow fences were stored. So I have an area that I would like to hunt for relics but the iron snow fence material gets in the way. There is to much of this stuff to clean out. I would like to know what you think about getting around this problem. Thanks

First is this battle field private property? If not check with the local parks & rec - to see if its ok. If its state or federal leave it alone!!!!

If private and w permission, then do some research and hunt the areas that saw the most action. Remember no place is hunted out- even if its been hunted hard over the years- use MM program open up the disc and dig everything. As to the snow fence problem- if this is the only area that has any relics left which i doubt then you may have to either clean it out or use a small coil -5.3 and possibly lower AC/DC settings to avoid interfernece with the iron stuff. The trade off is of course depth and coverage with the small coil

It is on private property which I have had permission for years. This is not the only place that I have and are still finding relics. Since I got the DFX300 I thought that I might have a hand up on pulling the relics out that are there. I have reading the web about coils and maybe a smaller coil in that area would help in the seperation. I am going to go down to the battlefield on sunday and if I get a chance I will go back and see if I can do somthing.
Thanks for the help.

Dan,

I would set up the MXT like this- trigger center, disc at 2, gain at preset- if you can go higher depending on soil mineralization/ EMI do so w/out getting chattery.

Main thing- find a clean spot to set auto GB- start w switch in ground position- then once you pump up n down til u get a smooth TH w no rise as u go up n down set switch to LOCK!-- this will prevent the detector from tracking to the decaying iron in the soil.

If you cant move/rake up shallow snow fence u will have to dig it up to get at good stuff- as im sure you know if u try to ignore iron u will miss relics- due ot masking or miss CW iron relics- frags, gun tools etc,

In highly mineralized soil like at DIV in culpeper,VA - every target sounds like iron w/ a VLF detector.

Send some pix of ur site and post some of ur finds from prev visits for motovation fo the rest of us

Hi
I didn't get the chance to do anything the field that I wanted to hunt was in corn and the snow fence area was alittle hard to get to. I will have to wait until harvest time. I will try and get the pictures done and get them up on the net.
