I was on the hunt for a large coil for workin the fluff at the beach... While scouring craigs list I found an 18 in excellerator II coil that had never been used. I tried to find out what I could about it since if it won't work well then its a waste of money. I couldn't find out too much, but figured I would look at it. The one or 2 reports said the vdi's were way off and they had to run AC less than 40 to keep it stable. Well I hooked it up to my DFX and tried a few targets... bam it was right in line with what my normal VDI's are. I got it and figured I would give it a go. I have been wanting a 12x15, but KCO doesn't have any in stock and who knows when they will get them. It is definitely heavier but I think for the extra coverage it will be a trade off. Gonna pound the beach with it for a lil while tomorrow after I drop the wife and her mother off at the airport...

A lil 2gramer 10k. Just a few inches deep. I don't really care about the depth since its mainly for fresh drops< 6 in. I haven't dug anything deep with it. I must say though the VDI # are spot on compared to the stock or the 6x10. _________________ To err is human to arrr is pirate... |

. I think I would have to agree about the size of that thing. I couldn't see that coil picking up a chain or a small coin at any depth at all. That's something I would use to try and find a jar of coins at some real depth. And I always assumed the stock coil gave the best ID over all others as the machine was designed around the 950 for balancing purposes. I've never heard of any coil ID'ing better then the 950 unless you went smaller. How does it react with other targets and iron caught up in it?
Well if it's working good for you god bless you. I have my hands full with the 12". I bet that would work good for sweeping for mines or IED's in the Iraqi desert! _________________ better to search and fail then never search at all |

Right now its so sanded in, targets are few and far between. You would be hard pressed to get 2 targets under it at the same time... Bottle caps sound good and not broken, but the graph gives them away every time... _________________ To err is human to arrr is pirate... |
